Arabian Oryx Hunts

Arabian Oryx

The Arabian oryx is one of the most beautiful and graceful antelopes globally. They are herd animals, very social, and known for being curious. But the oryx is a species of antelope that may be the best-known and longest-running success story in the world of conservation. Thanks to remarkable efforts to preserve it from extinction, it is once again roaming the wilds of its native desert home.

The Arabian oryx was once widespread in the Middle East. At the end of the 19th century, they lived in Sinai, Palestine, Transjordan, much of Iraq, and most of the Arabian Peninsula. The Arabian oryx is a medium-sized antelope with a distinct shoulder bump, long, straight horns, and a tufted tail. These animals have a beautiful ivory straight horn that can be up to 400 cm long. These animals will make loud snorts or grunts to alert other oryxes of danger when threatened. They are also skilled at finding food sources in barren environments. In the heat of the day, they dig for water, break down dry crusty earth for nutrients, and even eat stones to help grind their gizzard.

More About the Animal

Oryxes are more prominent than their relatives, the gazelles, but smaller than gerenuks. Their bodies are slender and long, with slim legs and short necks. They stand around 76 to 91 centimeters (30 to 36 in) at the shoulder, measure 160 to 190 centimeters (63 to 75 in) in length, including their tails of 20 to 30 centimeters (7.9 to 11.8 in) and weigh 41 to 86 kilograms (90 to 190
