Trophy Markhor Hunts
Natives of Southern Asia, markhors are typically found in the rugged landscapes and high altitudes of the Himalayan, Karakoram, Hindu Kush, and Pamir mountains, as well as in the Baluchistan region of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Uncoincidentally, they are also Pakistan’s official national animal.
As a high-altitude animal, the markhor prefers the remoteness of sparse forests, rocky slopes, and desolate fields. It is adaptable and can thrive in various habitats, and males tend to be loners, while females thrive in small herds. This preference for isolation makes the solitude of the Texas Hill Country makes a great environment for these striking animals.
Not only is the markhor one of the largest species of wild goats, but it is also noted for its distinctive fur. Its coat is long and shaggy, with a coarse topcoat and soft, wooly undercoat. However, its horns are perhaps its most striking characteristic. Long and spreading, the horns often take on a spiraling or curly shape and can reach almost five feet in length. These distinct features make markhors top-level trophies for any exotic hunter.
